The concepts, global contexts and ATL skills on these three pages come
from official/MYP Sciences.pdf — a subject-guide
companion manual compiled at Millbrook High School (August 2014), which
reproduces this part of the MYP framework alongside local guidance. It is
a secondary source: the assessment criteria on the sciences and design
pages are from the IB's own chapters, but this material is not.
These pages are multi-column tables, which
pdftotext -layout reads left to right, line by line
— so a concept name in the narrow left column lands in the middle of
the wrapped definition beside it. The text is therefore taken from the
PDF's block geometry (pdftotext -bbox-layout), which
gives one block per table cell. The 122 ATL skills and their 14
sub-skills are extracted from those cells rather than transcribed; every
other string is re-checked against them verbatim by
build/extract.py --verify.
Four corrections, listed in
build/extract_framework.py so they can be audited:
Patters → Patterns and techinical →
technical (misspellings); consequen-ces →
consequences (hyphenated across a line break); and
orientation in time and space → Orientation in space and
time, which the companion reverses —
official/Global Context.pdf, an IB document, gives the
order used here. Three cells where the PDF fuses two
pieces of text are split, also listed there.
The companion's prose says the MYP has “chosen 16 key concepts
… but 4 have been identified as the framework for sciences”,
then describes three. Three — change, relationships and systems
— is what the IB prescribes for sciences, and three is what this page
shows.
